When people talk about art in interiors, the conversation often focuses on colour palettes, matching furniture or filling an empty wall.
I believe that’s the wrong starting point.
The strongest interiors are not designed around furniture or around art. They are designed around an atmosphere. Art should become part of the architecture itself, shaping how a space is experienced, remembered and valued.
Art should be the communication tool between a space and its audience, telling a story, ignite conversations and questions.
This example, my latest “EL GENI / Street Opera variation”, reflects that philosophy. The painting isn’t competing with the room; it completes it. The generous negative space, restrained palette and architectural setting allow the artwork to breathe while reinforcing the character of the interior.
Dali’ eccentric eyes and the street art style pink – silver – black colour palette, fits within the dark atmosphere of this luxury boutique hotel lounge, it breaks it – with confidence.
For designers, developers and hospitality professionals, selecting art should be considered as carefully as choosing stone, lighting or bespoke joinery. A carefully positioned artwork can:
• create a focal point without dominating the room
• reinforce the architectural language of the space
• add emotional depth and identity
• elevate the perceived value of the interior
• transform a house into a memorable environment
• connect with its unique audience
• act as a timeless conversation starter
• ignite the space marketing
This is where I see the future of contemporary art, not as decoration added at the end of a project, but as an integral design element harmonically integrated within the entire environment.
Great spaces don’t simply display art.
They are designed to live with it.
